The history of Disability Pride: from its birth in the US to the global network

The movement was born in the United States in the 1990sinspired by the major civil movements and the LGBTQ+ Pride. The intention was clear: no longer to see disability as a lack, but as a an integral part of identityto be lived with pride and without fear.

In Italy, the first Disability Pride took place in Rome in 2015. Since then, the event has gone from strength to strength, becoming part of a worldwide network with events at New York, London, Berlin and Madrid.

The Florentine edition represents a new milestone e an opportunity to affirm that diversity is not an obstacle, but valuable resources for society as a whole.
