Disability Pride Rome 2025: everything you need to know

On 20 September, the capital celebrates inclusion and rights

DISABILITY PRIDE ROMA
From Rolling Stones Italy, Disability Pride Rome 2022

The 20 September 2025 returns to Rome on Disability Pridethe event that promotes the rights, respect education and inclusion of people with disabilities. An event that is not just a parade, but a real moment of community, sharing and participation open to all.

What is Disability Pride and why is it important: participating as an act of collective awareness

The Disability Pride is an international movement born with the aim of:

  • enhancing the identity and pride of people with disabilities;
  • raise awareness of rights and inclusion;
  • breaking down cultural and social stereotypes and barriers;

Participating in this day means standing up for a more inclusive societyin which every person can live with equal dignity and opportunities.

The history of Disability Pride and its universal message: diversity as a resource and value for the whole of society

The Disability Pride was born in the United States in the early 1990s, following the example of the civil rights movements and LGBTQ+ Pride. The idea was clear: shifting the focus from disability seen as a limitation to disability as part of identity, to be lived with pride and dignity.

In Italy, the first edition dates back to 2015with a parade in Rome that inaugurated a route that is now increasingly participated in and recognised nationally and internationally. Today, Disability Pride Italy is part of a global network that organises events in cities such as New York, London, Berlin and Madrid.
