The first stage of decubitus takes into account superficial phenomena, which manifest themselves as a hardening or a change in skin coloration. These peculiarities do not disappear when their trigger is eliminated.
The second stage of decubitus considers a partial-thickness skin injury, which may involve both the epidermis and dermis. However, it remains a superficial wound and may present as a normal abrasion.
The third stage of decubitus detects a full-thickness skin lesion with subcutaneous tissue involvement.
The fourth stage of decubitus includes cases in which the evolution of the lesion is total. So there is a complete degeneration, the effects of which have involved the muscles and bones.
